The government should postpone the NEET and JEE exams!

Currently, the most discussed topic nowadays is to postpone the NEET and JEE exams. There have been more than lakh posts on Twitter saying to Postpone the exams. And Personally, I am in favor of the students. As being a student I can relate to the mental health and each circumstance that is been faced by the students in these difficult pandemic situations.

Why is it necessary to postpone the NEET and JEE exams which are to be conducted in September 2020?

Here I would be point by point telling you, why there is a necessity to postpone the NEET and JEE exams that are scheduled to be held in the upcoming days of the month of September.
So;
1) Risks of getting affected by Covid-19:

Presently, our country India is 3rd in the world with respect to the total number of Covid-19 cases.
So even in this situation, it will not be appropriate to conduct the exams and invite numbers of Covid-19 cases. Yes, it is a kind of an Invitation! As a large number of students will be coming in contact with each other, there is a threat of an increase in the Covid-19 cases.
Several amounts of students, staff members, support persons, supervisors, and many other people directly or indirectly that interact with one another to have a higher risk of getting affected by Covid-19.

2) Traveling is difficult:

Many students have their Exam center distant from their residences i.e approximately 200-500 km far away from home. And as we all are well aware that the trains are not yet begun so there might a lot of difficulty to the students of rural regions to travel to their respective exam centers.
Despite this, there will be really a tough situation while traveling by bus too as there will be a lot of rush and it will get harder to maintain social distancing.
Now do the students have to travel a 200-500km by walk to attend the exam?
Yes, this question has been raised in my mind. Because not every student can afford to travel in a private vehicle and Not each student comes from an urban area so the only choice left behind for such rural areas students is that they have to travel really a massive km just to attend the exams.

3) The mental instability of a student:

A student coming from areas such as Assam, Bihar, and Northeastern states, the areas which have recently faced the natural calamity that is Flood. So it is very obvious that the whole family, as well as the students, will not be in good condition. Ultimately, every little situation is going to hit harder for the students as they will find it difficult to concentrate on their studies and exams and flooded areas create bad traveling modes. And hence these reasons will create stress and anxiety amongst the students affecting their mental health. Some students have already committed suicide too.

4) What has happened when exams have been executed:

Two weeks back, the USA had announced the reopening of the schools. But unfortunately, it increased the Covid-19 cases. Approximately 95000 students have been tested positive for Covid-19.
In our own country India, the exam named KEAM was held in KERALA and the exam UGEE in UP which boosted the number of Covid-19 cases in their states and ultimately in India.

5) Covid-19 does not affect much to younger people:

It is quite true that young people are not much affected by the Covid-19 but the students after coming back home have the possibility to carry the Covid-19 with them. Thus there are chances of affecting Covid-19 to the parents and grandparents living at home and most of the Indian people live in joint families which can create a problem for the whole family. Each family member will have to suffer just because of one student.

But as a coin has two sides, even this issue has both its pros and cons, that is as follows-

1) If this year's exams are canceled then one section for the year will not go waste.
2) Next year there will be a double number of students studying for the same number of seats as this year. It will be avoided.
3) The students who are repeaters or who have taken a gap between, their year is not wasted.

How can this issue be solved?

We can understand if other people are traveling for duties and work etc but that is to bring little stability in life. But exams can be postponed and there is no harm in doing so. The exams should be conducted but not now. It should be now delayed and later should be conducted only once there is surety about the safety of the students and other people who will be coming in their contact.
So for now, the exams can be postponed until a big solution comes against this deadly Covid-19.

I believe in LIFE MUST GO ON but this doesn't mean that we should risk our Life itself.
So postponing the exams are much better than risking life.
Lastly, as a good wisher what I think is
What question should we ask ourselves is that;
What is more essential to us?
Our Exams, Career, or Life.
The only answer which will knock in your mind is that Life is more essential and precious too.

Recent Update-
NTA has issued some guidelines for students in order to exam conduction.

These are mentioned below :

1)Fresh masks will be provided at the exam centers and candidates will have to throw the old masks.
2)All candidates and invigilators will be checked for temperature using thermo guns at the entry.
3) There will be separate isolation rooms for candidates showing COVID-19 symptoms.
4) All candidates will be seated at least at a distance of 6 feet from each other.
5) Candidates will only be permitted to move out in an orderly manner after the exam is over.

And this is how NTA is planning to conduct the examination.
Let's hope for the Best.

Thank you!

  2. Risk was/is/will be there in one or other form. NEET and JEE are not ordinary exams. They find premium talent from our country for most prestigious institute who in turn becomes intellectual property for our country. So as border people can't stay at home, industry people can't stay at home, administration can't stay home, scientists, police, health worker can't stay home, those students who are the future of this country can't sacrifice crucial one year. And in every walk of life we need to learn with new normal as solution to problem is not in near sight.
Risk is both ways but why not fight with all your armours on. You students also have duty towards humanity. Be brave and fight. This is a land of Bhagvat Gita, where Duty is pronounced as SUPREME

    1. Cancelling the exams would result in the wastage of one year in the student's carrear which I'm certainly not asking for.
I'm demanding the exam to be postponed atleast for 2-3 months as many pharmaceutical companies claiming that vaccine maybe available till the year end.
Around 16 lakh students are going to appear for NEET this year, considering their families we're putting almost 50 lakh lives in danger.

      Lets hope for something better.
